On Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 6:00-8:00pm The Cherry Blossom Festival was held in the Robert M. Smith Student Center on Slippery Rock University’s campus. The event was hosted by the SRU ESports Club, SRU Japanese Club, College of Liberal Arts, Department of Interdisciplinary Programs, and the Department of Modern Languages. The event was $5 admission. All proceeds benefited the May 2019 Saga International Study Trip.
Students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate some of the traditional aspects of a Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. Activities at the event included: super smash brothers tournament, cherry blossom cupcake decorating, calligraphy, origami, photo booth with kimonos, Shitadashioto mask painting, tarot card reading, and Japanese children’s games. Admission to the event even earned attendees a raffle ticket to win the cherry blossom lottery tree door prize.
